Well over 40 community organisations including Waikato Multicultural Council participated in the second Welcoming Week – Te Wiki o Manaaki celebration in Kirikiriroa Hamilton in partnership with Te Haa o te Whenua o Kirikiriroa (THAWK) who formally opened the celebration at the Welcoming Manaaki Village at Claudelands and led the closing poroporoaki at Waikato University.

Welcoming Week 1-10 September, Claudelands Hamilton. Waikato Multicultural Council joined in with many other organizations in an annual global event bringing people and community groups together to celebrate the contributions of migrants and refugees to their collective cities. Hamilton Kirikiriroa is incredibly diverse with Hamiltonians representing more than 160 ethnicities, and a long history of people moving here from other countries. The latest statistics show more than 27% of the city’s population were born overseas.
