Immigration Conference 2023

Three delegates from Waikato Multicultural Council are attending the Immigration Conference titled Huarahi Hou: Te Tiriti-based Aotearoa Towards 2040 at Jet Park Hotel on 6 and 7 May 2023.

The conference programme is made up of three panel discussions listed below:

  1. Towards developing a cultural framework for Tiriti-based population strategy for NZ
  2. Towards building cultural infrastructure for a thriving Tiriti-based multicultural society – Arrival and settlement
  3. From Policy to Practice - Implementing Cultural Infrastructure in Aotearoa NZ

The framework panel is set to be facilitated by Prof David MacDonald, the speakers consist of Dr Ganesh Nana, Productivity Commission, Harry Tam, H2R Research & Consulting, Tā Mark Solomon, Ngai Tahu Rangatira, Assoc. Prof Dr Melani Anae, University of Auckland
The infrastructure panel is going to be facilitated by Prof James Liu, the panel is made up of Butch Bradley, Te Ara a Maui, Dr Negar Partow, Massey University, Bernard Hickey, Independent Commentator, Pancha Narayanan, MNZ Chairperson
Furthermore, the implementation panel is facilitated by Fraser Carson, it will be made up of
NZ Police: Rakesh Naidoo, MSD: Sally Clarkson, MBIE: Thomas Banda TBC and representative from MoH.
At the end of the first day delegates will have the opportunity to reflect on panel discussions in breakout sessions for senior, women, youth, and rainbow communities.
On the second day there will also be a political forum where members of parliament debate from Labour: Vanushi Walters, National: Melissa Lee and Greens: Ricardo Menendez March.
